The Sims 4 is one of the few games that offer players a chance to hone their building skills. Many amazing creations can be seen in the game’s Gallery from creative players around the world. Although there are Simmers who prefer to live in an already-built house rather than build it from scratch, there are also players who are the complete opposite.
A lot of The Sims 4 players enjoy recreating things from real life, like a whimsical treehouse. For Simmers who’d like to build one, here are a few tips and tricks to create this magical type of home.
How To Build A Treehouse In The Sims 4
To build a Treehouse in The Sims 4, players must first pick a lot. A Lot that has many plants offers better visuals than deserted ones. Areas from the Island Living World are also a great option. Next, if they like, players can fill the Lot with different types of trees. It’s not necessary, but it will give the illusion that the treehouse is in the middle of a forest.
To start building the house, players must make the supporting tree for the treehouse. Simmers may need to use cheats to make the tree big enough. Next, construct a multi-floor room. Keep the floor that appears to sit on the tree (or is in contact with the branches), and delete the rest of the build. Players can remove the room’s walls and build the general shape of the house.
Next, make sure Sims can access the house. In addition to stairs, ladders are now an option thanks to The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle. Lastly, players can decorate their tree house. These types of The Sims 4 builds obviously require a lot of greenery, so players need to surround the whole build with as many trees and plants as possible.
Helpful Cheats
A problem that may occur is that most of the trees are small and won’t fit well on any platform. Luckily, there’s a cheat players can use to change the size of any object. To enable it, open up the Cheat Console by pressing:
- Ctrl+Shift+C on Pc Command+Shift+C on Mac R1+R2+L1+L2 on Console All four shoulder buttons on Xbox One
Afterward, type Testingcheats True or Testingcheats On, and The Sims 4 cheats will become enabled. Next, players need to write bb.moveobjects. Now, Simmers can resize objects by pressing these buttons:
- Shift + ] to enlarge and Shift + [ to reduce for Pc/Mac Hold L2 + R2 and press up or down on the D-pad to make items bigger or smaller for Console Hold LT + RT and press up or down on the D-pad for Xbox
If the size is not to their liking, the button can be pressed multiple times until the desired size is achieved.
Tips & Tricks For A Better Treehouse
Better-Looking Ladders
If the player’s treehouse is on the third or fourth floor, it’s considered very high. If the stairs or ladders are placed, they will be very long, making it look awkward.
A quick fix would be to build another platform a floor below the one that the house is built on. This way, when placing the stairs or ladder, it will look shorter and more practical. Keep in mind that if players want ladders instead of stairs, the second platform needs to have a side dedicated for the ladder, directly under the first platform.
Trimming Platforms
When building a new platform, the edges will be white by default. If players’ build has a darker shade, this may cause the colors to look unequal. Luckily, Simmers can easily hide it using Trim from the Exterior Trims in the Friezes and Exterior Trims category in Build Mode.
Improving Decorations
Seeing as the house is built on a tree, there will be a large open area underneath it. One way to fill the space is to create a lake under the treehouse. To do this, head to the Terrain Tools and choose Terrain Manipulation. There is an additional option to control the softness of the terrain, which helps players create lakes.
After players are satisfied with the lake form, enter the Water Tool and fill it with water to the desired height. To decorate the pond, Builders can use objects from the Pond Effects in the Outdoor Water Décore category.
The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
