Karan Johar broke the news on his Twitter account on Friday. “I am overjoyed and honoured to be able to share this news with you. Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios have secured the rights to a wonderful coming-of-age love storey, #Hridayam, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu — all the way from the south, the realm of Malayalam cinema,” the filmmaker wrote.

Hridayam, a coming-of-age drama directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, chronicled the life of a young man named Arun Neelakandan from his college days to becoming a father. The film also included Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran in lead roles, in addition to Pranav Mohanlal. The film’s music, particularly “Darshana” and “Onakka Munthiri,” composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, were well received.

Hridayam provided millennials with a decent dose of nostalgia by recreating university memories and campus romance. Pranav Mohanlal played Arun Neelakandan in the film, who attends an engineering college in Chennai and falls in love with Darshana, played by Darshana Rajendran. Arun and Darshana split up due to a misunderstanding, and Arun finds love in the shape of Nithya, played by Kalyani Priyadarshan. The crowd responded emotionally to the three-hour-long film.

The film received a positive response at its initial release. However, the unusual surge in Covid-19 cases caused the government to close theatres in various regions throughout Kerala, reducing the film’s box office revenue.

Hridayam is available to watch on Disney Plus Hotstar.
