As per the reports Maruti Suzuki is in contact with top Military officials for Jimny to be inducted into Indian Army. There are over 35,000 units of the Maruti Gypsy in the Indian Army. This humble workhorse does duties as light troop carriers, patrolling vehicles, and even combat applications in certain conditions.

But since Maruti has stopped the production of Gypsy and it has aged as well army needs replacement. Recently, it was reported that the globally debuted new Maruti Jimny could replace the Gypsy in the Indian Army.

The new Jimny is expected to come with improved features and capabilities, making it an even better fit for the military. The vehicle is designed to be a true off-roader, with a ladder-frame chassis, four-wheel drive, and a low-range transfer case.
