According to a Hilary Duff Instagram update, the Lizzie McGuire Disney Plus series is reportedly gone. The series allegedly starred an older Duff reprising her part in her 30s as Lizzie, managing a New York profession, and grappling with more “adult” themes. “It’s been an honor to have Lizzie in my life,” Duff wrote. He also said that he knows the attempts and debates have been trying to make work elsewhere but unfortunately and through everyone’s best efforts will not happen. The original showrunner of the new Lizzie McGuire season, Terri Minsky, was shot just two episodes into development by Disney over “differences” in artistic direction, Variety says. Production on the show was absolutely suspended in January 2020 following the elimination of Minsky, with the future of it uncertain. In the past, Disney has taken steps to uphold the family-friendly reputation of Disney Plus, including going as far as censoring a naked ass in the Splash video. The organization has posted films and shows on Hulu that it calls “adult.” For eg, Love, Victor was transferred to the Disney Plus service to include alcohol consumption and sexual experimentation. Duff also publicly urged Disney to consider transferring her show, but there was never any change, and Duff’s announcement sealed the fate of Lizzie McGuire.
