Almost no film in recent times has had the similar influence as Spider-Man: No Way Home, which surpassed box office and internet records as the year 2021 came to a close. No Way Home was a cultural sensation as 3 phases of web-slinger stories came together in one journey, and became one of the best-reviewed blockbusters of the century and is also one of the most successful films to ever play in theatres.

The theatrical edit of No Way Home clocked in at 148 minutes, making it the fourth-longest Marvel Cinematic Universe film to date, behind Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Eternals. While the amount of footage provided many spectacular moments from beginning to end, many fans felt that some content was left on the cutting room table.

Fans have discovered about deleted scenes in the last several months, which may have brought even more intrigue to the already gripping threequel. This includes more scenes with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in his debut MCU film, as well as a longer rendition of Peter Parker’s confrontation with the Green Goblin when Norman Osborn first arrived, and this was ostensibly just the beginning.

Now, when No Way Home returns to the spotlight, Sony has intentions to share more of that previously unseen material with fans.

No Way Home Return To The Theatres

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have announced that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be re-released in theatres in an expanded form, according to the official @SpiderManMovie Twitter account.

Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire made the news via video, kidding around before confirming that the film would return to theatres in the United States and Canada on Friday, September 2. As previously reported in February, this extended cut would incorporate never-before-seen footage from the MCU threequel and will be dubbed “The More Fun Stuff Version.”

Amit Chaudhari, a well-known insider, revealed the names of five deleted sequences that Sony intends to incorporate in this version, stating that the company is “saving these & more to cross $2 billion” at the box office. These sequences will add over 15 minutes to the 148-minute runtime of the theatrical cut:

  • Interrogation Scene Extended – 2:25
  • Peter Day at Midtown High – 5:25
  • Undercroft Montage – 1:35
  • Happy’s Very Good Lawyer – 1:35
  • The Spideys Hang Out – 4:25

Tickets for this new edit will go on sale on Tuesday, August 9, just over three weeks before The More Fun Stuff Version hits theatres.

Following Avengers: Endgame in June 2019 and Spider-Man: Far From Home in August 2019, this is the third MCU film to get a big theatrical re-release. Sony has done this twice before, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage returning to theatres in January and Morbius returning to theatres in early June to mixed reviews.

Extended Cut Video

With re-releases becoming more of a pattern than an outlier, it’s hardly unsurprising that Spider-Man: No Way Home was the latest MCU picture to get a second showing in theatres.

With the deleted sequences that will be added to the plot, the movie will be close to 165 minutes long (a 17-minute expansion), touching on some of the threequel’s greatest moments that were considerably shorter in the theatrical cut. More interaction between Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield should be particularly intriguing as they understand more about themselves and one another’s universes.

This release is also expected to put the third instalment closer to the $2 billion threshold in global box office, making it only the sixth film in history to accomplish so. The Multiversal event won’t require much of a push to reach its next billion-dollar milestone, since the film is presently valued at $1.89 billion, with only $110 million remaining.

Whatever the outcome, it appears to be a win-win situation for everyone concerned, as Sony will be able to reintroduce No Way Home to the public eye, and fans will be able to relive the experience in theatres once more.

The digital and Blu-ray versions of Spider-Man: No Way Home are now available for purchase. The threequel will be re-released in theatres on September 9th.
