Rumors have also been circling the internet surrounding Supersonic, who fans suspect may be an ex-boyfriend of Starlight. Actor Sean Patrick Flanery has been cast as the superhero, Gunpowder. With context clues again, fans have assumptions that Flanery’s powers will involve lots of ammunition and weapons of sorcery. Although claims have been made that the three new superheroes are completely separate from the comics, Gunpowder may be a slight exception. Gunpowder was in fact a character who was derived from the original The Boys comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
Gunpowder was written and introduced as a member of the young supes towards the very beginning. Yet, since time has passed and Flannery is well past his younger years, major adjustments and tweaks will have to be made as a result. Gunpowder may not even be recognizable when he appears on season 3. His personality, goals, and physicality will be entirely different, permitting him the newcomer status. Last but not least is actor Nick Wechsler, who will be playing the superhero named Blue Hawk.
The Boys is based on the comics by Ennis and Robertson, so the plot and characters so far have been greatly informed by the text itself. The exciting part, aside from getting 3 new characters to meet, is that these superheroes are completely separate from the comics. The fact that these three characters are fresh creations that haven’t been talked about or seen before gives the series endless possibilities and all the more freedom for season three.
