2022 has begun and with it excitement for the Nintendo Switch is rebuilding. While 2021 wasn’t without its gems on the Switch, it was a slow year for the platform. 2022 looks to rebuild some of the console’s momentum, however, starting with several major exclusives. There’s Pokemon Legends Arceus to start the year, and looking toward March Square Enix has an RPG that many are hoping is something special. Triangle Strategy’s launch is approaching, as the ESRB has now reconfirmed.
An official rating for Triangle Strategy has just been published by the ESRB, the United States’ independent rating board for video games. The rating provided some early details about Triangle Strategy that should please RPG fans, since Square Enix has been surprisingly quiet about much of the game’s story and systems so far. The basics are already known, that Triangle Strategy is a RPG with tactical turn-based combat, as well as heavy narrative featuring plenty of character interaction and dialogue choices.
The ESRB rating also gets into some depth regarding what kind of mature content Triangle Strategy will feature. Without touching on any spoilers, Triangle Strategy will feature some sexually suggestive language, as well as several on-screen deaths. Don’t expect these deaths to be particularly gruesome, however. Triangle Strategy kept content tepid enough to manage a “T for Teen” rating from the ESRB, similar to Fire Emblem: Three Houses for the Switch.
What the ESRB proves, contextually, is that Triangle Strategy is moving closer to its previously announced release date of March 4. There had been some worry that Square Enix’s lack of new information about the game could imply a delay was forthcoming. This ESRB rating should calm down that speculation, however. Square Enix may simply be waiting until closer to launch to really start advertising its upcoming tactical RPG.
Square Enix may not be sharing a lot of information about Triangle Strategy, but it has released some details. For example, three weeks ago a trailer focusing on Triangle Strategy protagonist Roland Glenbrook was shared online. Roland is one of three main characters in the game, with all three being a focus in the RPG’s epic story.
Don’t be surprised if Square Enix drops additional trailers over the next two months, with focuses on the other two Triangle Strategy protagonists, story, combat, and more. Nintendo and Square Enix fans alike have high hopes that Triangle Strategy lives up to the legacy of classic Square Enix tactics games.
Triangle Strategy releases March 4 on Switch.
