Though there are many hardcore players in the gaming community, there are still a lot of gamers who prefer to play casual titles. Whether on desktop or mobile devices, match-three puzzle games like Candy Crush or old-school maze runners like Temple Run are often very popular. This explains why many are currently hooked on word-guessing titles like Wordle. Recently, a Redditor shared that they were inspired by Wordle to create a math-themed puzzle game named Summle for fellow math fans to enjoy.
Given how successful the word-guessing game has recently been with the online population, many clones of Wordle have already popped up on the internet. Looking to emulate Wordle’s popularity, some clones have even been themed or inspired by other video games in order to entice a crowd that is always on the lookout for the next trendy game to try. However, it seems this may be the first time that a fan simply took inspiration from Wordle’s guessing gameplay features in order to create a unique puzzle-solving title to match their preferred subject.
On Reddit, user balotz, or Nick Nicholaou in real life, shared the link to their math-inspired guessing game Summle. Similar to Wordle yet different from most puzzle games, players will have to guess the correct sums using the provided tiles at the bottom of the page. The goal is to reach the number that is featured at the top of the game’s page. According to the instructions, players can only use the provided number tiles once, and each new sum can be used in another equation, creating a huge number of possibilities on how to go about solving the puzzle.
Summle also seems to emulate how Wordle puzzles refresh daily, offering players a new sum and set of numbers to guess the equations every day. However, the main difference between the two games is shown in how complicated Summle can become. Given how players have to guess the equation sequences instead of just inputting letters through simple deduction, Summle may be a bit more difficult for those who are looking to play something simple and casual during their free time.
Nevertheless, math fans will likely enjoy Summle. The game does offer completely different gameplay from Wordle’s word guessing, allowing players to take a break from consonants and vowels. Replies on the Reddit thread seem enthusiastic about the math puzzle game, indicating that the interest of the community is likely there. Hopefully more players discover Summle in hopes that it becomes the next best casual game to try.
