Coming into 2022, Warner Bros. Interactive seemingly had a clear—if ambitious—plan. It would have four major releases, perhaps punch above its weight, in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, Gotham Knights, and Hogwarts Legacy. Prior to the recent State of Play presentation on the latter, a lot was known about LEGO Star Wars because it had been delayed, and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League had been at a few showcases.

Indeed, comparing the marketing between Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and Gotham Knights, it seemed certain that the former was more likely to release this year. With four major releases, it seems like a delay was on the table for one game. The two that seemed the most likely to be delayed, at least around the marketing if not the leaks and messaging, were Gotham Knights and Hogwarts Legacy. That has been thrown out the window, at least for now.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Delay?

In February, it was reported that Suicide Squad was being delayed into 2023. Warner Bros. Interactive didn’t and still hasn’t commented on this, but at the time, it made many worried about Gotham Knights. But when Gotham Knights got a release date, Suicide Squad was silent and the buzz around the game was silent.

Of the four games, the only game that was and still seems hard set in its current release date is LEGO Star Wars. Hogwarts Legacy recently confirmed a release window of Holiday 2022, while Gotham Knights is set for an October release. Neither are exempt from potential delays, but having a time frame out there for games that haven’t been shown much is at least a good sign that more will come.

Yet, while the lesser showcased Gotham Knights and Hogwarts Legacy now have release dates/windows, there is utter silence around Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. There was little reason to doubt the aforementioned reporting of Suicide Squad’s delay, as it came from Bloomberg, but this change in terms of release date, showcases, and marketing all point to a delay.

Whether Gotham Knights or Hogwarts Legacy join it in 2023 remains to be seen, but it’s not impossible. But, at this point, to cling to some hope that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League does release this year—especially as the titular team’s popularity is at an all-time high, would be setting one’s self up for disappointment. The silver lining, of course, is a full-year delay means a lot more time to perfect and polish, and as the old saying goes, a game delayed is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
