Everyone’s favorite lethal tournament may be returning with not just one, but two more rounds for viewers. Hwang Dong-hyuk, creator of the popular series Squid Game, has officially confirmed that he and Netflix are currently discussing coming back with two brand new seasons.
Although the creator has been pushing for two more seasons, Netflix has yet to even confirm an official season two is without a doubt coming and in the works. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is most definitely feeling the pressure from the media and fans across the globe to bring a speedy return. During a screening back in November, Hwang did confirm that he had already been working on a possible season two narrative. Hwang told The Hollywood Reporter, “I do have a basic storyline for season two, it’s all in my head, and I am currently in the brainstorming stage. It will happen, someday, but as far as for when I cannot tell you the details.”
This begs the question: what exactly is making Netflix stall so much when it comes to renewing Squid Game for at least a second season for the time being? The fandom and Guinness world records have been conquered, so it’s quite surprising to see Netflix not immediately latch onto this. However, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk did promise that a second season will make its way into existence at some point in the unforeseeable future.
Fans are just going to have to be as patient as ever as they await Squid Game’s epic return. Much remains a mystery as to what’s in store for the characters if a new season were to arrive. Until then, all Hwang has hinted at in regards to what’s to come for the series is, “that Gi-hun is going to be back. He will do something for the world.”
