A SpongeBob SquarePants game has surprise dropped on the Nintendo Switch. SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off: Extra Krusty Edition is available now on Nintendo’s hybrid console. The game was once a mobile exclusive, but now it comes with additional features.
SpongeBob games don’t always review well, but they often become cult-classics. SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off is a title that has seen massive success on Android and iOS. Its port to the Nintendo Switch is a bit of a surprise, but a welcome one.
According to its extremely short announcement trailer, as well as the eShop information on Nintendo’s listing website, SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off is completely redesigned for the Switch. The Extra Krusty Edition comes with exclusive new powerups for players to show off from behind the grill.
SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off is a cooking simulation game; like the Cooking Fever titles. Not quite as immersive as games like Overcooked, SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off has players taking orders from behind a grill and making them as efficiently as possible.
The one thing that players will need to be aware of is that SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off: Extra Krusty Edition costs $29.99 USD on the Nintendo Switch as opposed to being a free to download title on mobile devices. As surprising as it is to see the game itself release today, it is equally surprising to see that price tag; even with the additional features. There are plenty of games on the Switch eShop that started out as free mobile games that are significantly cheaper than $29.99 USD, so that is something that consumers will need to think about before purchasing.
