For months, fans speculated whether Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature multiple Spider-Men and whether actors who have previously portrayed the role of the hero on-screen will return to don the costume. Despite several leaks and potential on-set sightings, both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire denied their involvement in the Multiversal flick. After the film hit theatres, one Marvel fan decided to compile several clips featuring Garfield insisting that he is not a part of the blockbuster.
Fans who have seen Spider-Man: No Way Home will know that Garfield does, in fact, return to reprise his version of the web-slinging hero from The Amazing Spider-Man films. But, every time he was asked about his appearance in No Way Home during interviews in the past few months, Garfield straight out denied it, which makes the fan compilation a hilarious watch.
The fan, who goes by @dcurachel on Twitter, found clips of Garfield from various virtual interviews and stitched them together. Fans had been theorizing for months about the actor’s appearance in No Way Home and regardless of how many times Garfield denied his involvement in the Spider-Man film, nothing could shake their confidence. It is absolutely fascinating to watch the number of times he had to lie about his role in the film.
Marvel Studios tried their best to keep the cat in the bag, but it was one of the worst-kept secrets. Towards the beginning of the compilation, Garfield does genuinely seem convincing and when he expressed shock over leaked photos from the Spider-Man sets, fans almost believed that he wasn’t going to be in the film. The leaked photo featured Garfield, Maguire, and Holland wearing their respective Spider-Man costumes, and in one of his interviews Garfield called it a “photoshopped image.”
However, closer to the film’s premiere, even Garfield seemed to have gotten tired of the lies and his responses became more vague. Every time Garfield answered an interview question about Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans looked for clues or hints of the lies. His facial expressions and words were analyzed on social media, and keen-eyed fans found ways to decipher that he was in fact lying. And they were right after all, as both Maguire and Garfield do end up playing an important role in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now showing in theatres.
