MARVEL AND SONY ARE KEEPING THE PLOT OF SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME AS SECRET AS POSSIBLE PRIOR TO THE FILM’S DEBUT IN DECEMBER. The two studios have only released one trailer and a few generic, spoiler-free images for the highly anticipated superhero film.
To say Marvel fans have been let down by the studio’s marketing strategy thus far is an understatement.
With only a few weeks till the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans are still waiting for a second trailer — or even a television spot — for the comic book movie. While it’s unclear when Marvel and Sony will release more from Spider-Man: No Way Home, two fresh claimed leaks reveal fascinating tidbits about the film and its long-awaited second trailer.
THE BREAKAGE — This week, a slew of Spider-Man: No Way Home leaks hit social media, claiming to answer questions fans have had for a long time regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe picture.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will be 2 hours and 39 minutes long, according to the @spideysnews Twitter account. The film’s runtime was exposed, according to the tweet, through a listing on a Brazilian ticketing service.
A recent 4chan post, meanwhile, reveals what appear to be numerous significant aspects of the second Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer. The creator of the message claims that the film’s next trailer is nearly ready and will be released around November 15-17, and that it includes clear appearances from all five of the film’s reported villains, among other things (i.e. Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Electro, Sandman, and The Lizard).
The clip will also see Peter Parker (Tom Holland) fighting both Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Doc Ock, according to the post (Alfred Molina).
THE MOST IMPORTANT SPIDER-MAN FILM EVER — If these rumours are true, fans will have a much clearer sense of what to expect from both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Marvel and Sony’s collaborative marketing campaign.
In other words, it appears that the two studios intend to announce as much about the picture as many fans had hoped — notably, that it would contain a handful of villains from Sony’s previous Spider-Man flicks, but not that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will appear.
The rumoured 159-minute length of the film isn’t all that surprising either. All of Marvel’s 2021 films have been over 2 hours long, with Eternals’ final 156-minute runtime nearly matching the claimed length of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel fans have long anticipated that No Way Home will end up being one of the MCU’s longer standalone chapters, given how many characters are expected to feature in it.
THE INVERSE VERDICT — There’s no way of knowing how accurate these leaks are until Marvel and Sony actually take the plunge and disclose more details and footage from Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, they do seem to fit in with what many fans have come to expect from Marvel and Sony’s continuous partnership.
