Basant Panchami is a beautiful Indian festival celebrated to mark the onset of the spring season. It is celebrated every year in India to worship the goddess of knowledge and enlightenment, Goddess Saraswati. Hence, it is celebrated as Saraswati Puja in various regions of India.
Basant Panchami is celebrated to symbolise the onset of the spring season and mark the end of winter. The spring season is said to start after 40 days of Basant Panchami. Yellow colour is associated with this day. This colour is chosen as this colour represents the mustard fields which give an impression of a yellow flower bed.
Goddess Saraswati is considered the goddess of knowledge and wisdom. It is said that the world was created on this day by Lord Brahma. It is also said that to add music and wisdom to the lives of people living in ignorance and dullness, Lord Brahma created his wife, Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, art and music. Music and knowledge remove dullness and ignorance from the lives of people. Hence this day is celebrated to mark the birth of Goddess Saraswati. It is therefore known as Saraswati Puja. The farmers also celebrate this day to mark the beginning of the new cropping season. It is usually observed by young teenage girls or those in early adulthood.
This day is denoted as the fifth day of the month. In 2022, Basant Panchami will be celebrated on February 5. Here are a few Saraswati Puja songs you can play on this day to worship the Goddess.
