Many fans look forward to new games from their subscriptions or services every month. Whether it’s PS Plus, PS Now, Xbox Games with Gold, Xbox Game Pass, the Epic Games Store, or any of the others out there, there’s something exciting about getting free games…even if there are arguments that they are not technically free. Of course, this also leads to some months being deemed worse with others, and many PS Plus subscribers are upset with October’s games.
For PS Plus’ free games for October 2021, players get Mortal Kombat X (the base game), PGA Tour 2K21, and Hell Let Loose. Meanwhile, subscribers in Asia get Castlevania Requiem too, which is far more Halloween appropriate. That is one of a few reasons why some subscribers are upset with this month, as these titles don’t really embrace anything horror-related. Something subscribers were quick to point out was, if it were Mortal Kombat XL, there would be several horror-based fighting characters available to subscribers. As the base game, there isn’t.
Otherwise, Hell Let Loose has been well-received, but others are upset because PGA Tour 2K21—as a golf game—doesn’t really appeal to them. Throw this all together, and it seems that some PS Plus subscribers are jealous of PS Now subscribers and their games this month. It should be noted that nothing prevents someone from subscribing to both, yet that is somewhat draining on the wallet of course.
PS Plus vs. PS Now Free Games for October 2021
The PS Now games for October 2021 include The Last of Us 2, Fallout 76, and Desperados 3. Each of these games has a good strong draw to them, of course, but the jealousy seems centered around The Last of Us 2. While it is not the most terrifying of horror games, it is a zombie game and it is arguably good for the ongoing spooky season.
Meanwhile, the closest to horror PS Plus fans get is Mortal Kombat X, and that’s if they like fighting games and have the DLC. Otherwise, the spookiest aspect of PS Plus this month is Castlevania which is only in Asia. On the one hand, it’s understandable to want something befitting the season and Halloween spirit, and the upset is reasonable. On the other hand, many didn’t want a zombie game either, so it’s a rock and a hard place situation really.
Overall, while this upset may last a while, there’s always November to look forward to. Perhaps PS Plus and PS Now will step up the game and both have really good months, or perhaps it’ll continue going through the motions. There’s really no changing either selection, but it is good that subscribers voice these concerns. Hopefully, Sony is listening and perhaps next month will fall in the former option, not the latter.
PS Plus subscribers get a handful of free games every month.
