According to IMDb polls, here are some of the best horror films from the 1980s. This poll was made in celebration of one of the most iconic horror movies of all time, The Shining’s (1980) 40th anniversary.

The Shining (1980)

It is a 1980 psychological horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick and co-written with novelist, Diane Johnson.  The story revolves around Jack and his family move into an isolated hotel with a violent past. Living in isolation, Jack begins to lose his sanity, which affects his family members.

The Thing (1982)

It is an American science fiction horror film directed by John Carpenter from a screenplay by Bill Lancaster. The story revolves around a research team who finds an alien being that has fallen from the sky and is starting to hunt them down. Things take a sinister turn when they realize that the creature can take the shape of its victims.

Evil Dead II (1987)

An American comedy horror film directed by Sam Raimi. It is a sequel to the 1981 horror film, The Evil Dead. The film is written by Raimi and Scott Spiegel. Evil Dead II was produced by Robert Tapert and stars Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, who vacations with his girlfriend to a remote cabin in the woods. He discovers an audio tape of recitations from a book of ancient texts, and when the recording is played, it unleashes a number of demons that possess and torment him.

The Fly (1986)

An American science fiction-body-horror film directed and co-written by David Cronenberg. The story revolves around Seth, a brilliant scientist, is elated when he successfully manages to teleport himself in his own invention, the transportation machine. But, unbeknownst to him, he was not alone during the process.
