AirPlay is a feature that allows streaming multimedia content between various brand devices. However, in the last few weeks it has been presenting some issues.

According to reports, some users are unable to screen mirroring or streaming video through AirPlay to a Smart TV from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Some iPhone and iPad are unable to AirPlay videos to smart TVs

iPhone and iPad users report that they are unable to AirPlay videos from their devices to a Smart TV. It should be noted that the problem would only affect the videos, not the images (1, 2, 3).

The previous report indicates that the problem would have started after updating to iOS 15. Also, neither a TV and phone restart nor a reconnection helped solve the issue.

Has anyone else had this issue? What can I do to resolve? It worked fine before getting my new phone but I had not tried it after updating the IOS to 15. Any suggestions? Source

Some Macs have the same problem too

It’s not just Apple phones and tablets that are having trouble while trying to AirPlay video to Smart TVs. There are reports from users of Mac devices that describe the same situation.

I just got a new smart tv (Samsung Q6DAA). Attempted to use AirPlay to put a video from my MacBook Pro on the bigger screen. Paired up OK, on the same network – but the video won’t play and all I see on the TV screen is the settings dialogue. Help? Source

A workaround that reportedly helps

Among the reports, there is a workaround that would come directly from Apple. This consists of doing a reset of the settings of all the devices involved in AirPlay (including the router and the TV):

If you want to know what ‘Reset All Settings’ does to your Apple device, take a look at the following screenshot:

To reset your phone, go to Settings, General, scroll to bottom, choose Reset and then choose Reset All Settings. Source

Some Apple TV app users can’t AirPlay, but the problem would be compatibility

Some users report not being able to AirPlay from the Apple TV app to a Smart TV. It should be noted that not all Smart TVs are compatible with the Apple TV app:

In the coming days, if there is any new development in this regard, we will update this article. You can also check the bug/issues tracker dedicated to both iOS/iPadOS 15 and macOS 12 Monterey.
