Google My Maps is a feature of Google Maps that enables users to design unique maps for their own use or to share with others.

It offers a number of features to its users including various drawing tools, search features, and other personalization options. However, it is not always free of certain bugs and issues.

Google My Maps unable to upload KML files

It seems that a bug has now surfaced which is preventing some users (1,2,3,4,5,6) from uploading KML (Keyhole Markup Language) files on Google My Maps.

Reports suggest that whenever users try to upload the files, they get a ‘not supported for upload’ message. It seems that this error doesn’t pop up while uploading other files (CSV).

It’s interesting to note that there is no problem while downloading or opening a KML file but it only fails while importing.

This is quite frustrating as it’s potentially a major concern, especially for those who heavily rely on this process to get their work done.

Issue has been escalated and a potential workaround

Luckily, a Product Expert has confirmed that the issue has been escalated for further investigation. They have also provided a temporary workaround for the same.

So affected users can try the above-mentioned workaround till the time team comes up with a permanent fix.

We’ll keep an eye on the issue where Google My Maps users are unable to upload KML files and update this article accordingly.
