A previously unconfirmed collaboration between Snoop Dogg and BTS has now been verified by the hip-hop mogul himself. On the red carpet at the American Song Contest on Monday, legendary rapper (and ASC host) Snoop Dogg confirmed that a partnership between himself and global sensation BTS is now official.

“The BTS experience you keep talking about,” Snoop tells The A.V. Club. I’ll let them tell you all about it. It’s as official as a referee blowing a whistle. I adore the entertainment industry. It’s great music. It gives off [a] vibe. I’m a good musician. They make excellent music. And this is what we end up doing. Bringing our worlds together has always been the goal.”

Snoop Dogg said on the Mogul Talk podcast in January that he had gotten a request from global sensation K-pop duo BTS to collaborate. “I have a group called BTS that is waiting on me to do a song with them right now,” he told the hosts. And I’m trying to figure out if I have the time to accomplish such nonsense.”

Snoop had no idea how large the South Korean group was, so he had to ask his nephew for more information. “He showed me five motherfuckers who look like Asian New Edition,” Snoop claims. “I said all ok.”

Snoop is no stranger to the K-pop scene. He previously collaborated with the girl groups Girls Generation and 2NE1, and he appeared on Psy’s 2014 single “Hangover.” “I’ve been connected to the music industry [and] scene for a long time,” Snoop tells The A.V. Club of his K-pop experience. “Back in the day, I had a record with a group called 2NE1. Come on, that’s what I do.”

BTS, on the other hand, has been a long-time follower of the American rapper, even referencing Snoop’s 1993 album Doggystyle in their song “Hip Hop Phile” from their 2014 album Dark & Wild. BTS member RM even collaborated with Snoop’s frequent collaborator and fellow rap musician Warren G on a tune named “P.D.D.” in 2015.

Suga confirmed last year in an interview with BBC Radio 1 that future albums will have more hip hop music, adding that fans shouldn’t have to wait too long. According to BTS’ label BigHit Music, the Grammy-nominated group will release a new album this year. BE’s most recent full-length album, BE, was released in November 2020, thus fans have been waiting for any album news with bated breath.

With BTS ready to return to the United States next month for The Grammys and four sold-out performances in Las Vegas, hopefully more will be disclosed. The A.V. Club reached out to HYBE (the business that owns BigHit Music) for comment, and we’ll update this piece if we hear back.
